2014 Is Here, and I am back

Hope everyone had a good break over Christmas.

Plan is to have a very productive year for 2014, I am all settled into my new home now down in Wellington, which is a awesome city. I have a few new models to update on the page, and about to kick of with a new soon.

This year I really want to get into some streaming work, 2d and 3d, hopefully something entertaining for people, and also a bunch of studies, quick sculpts of animals and objects, also some cinematography studies.

I'm think of starting the year off on characters then switching it over to environments later in the year, and then maybe combine them up, well we shall see how it goes.

Kick things off with some really interesting cinematography links that  I stumbled across today

Cinematographer Styles

Well better get to it :)

Todays lunch update...trying to make it a lot creepier and freaky looking

Lunch sketch

During my lunch break from texturing today, thought I would do a little zbrush sculpting. I had the wicked disgusting head reference from this creature, I know I want it to fly so maybe it will be like a vulture.

Will do a couple of paint over tonight I think, to try some different desgins, so I can progress with it at lunch tomorrow

Uni shorts film fest 2013

We went to the Uni shorts film fest yesterday, and ended up winning best animation category for Funeral Home Pinatas, which was awesome. It was great meeting so many cool student film makers and the wicked guest judge Chris ‘Doc’ Wyatt, producer of 2004 cult hit Napoleon Dynamite.

It's been ages

Man, its been ages since I last updated this. Well still job hunting and making new work for a new demo reel.

I finished the main part of my script writing course, and have the entire layout of the movie sorted, im sure it will be tweaked during re-writes. I have started the first proper draft and I am 20 pages in. It was originally going to be a short film, but my friend has got me writing it as a feature, so only another 100 pages to go :)

Here is an update on my post apoc entry for cghub,  I missed the deadline, but I didn't want to rush it so I can have some high quality work for my portfolio. I am enjoying how it is turning out so far, still have a few areas to clean up. I tried transposing the hands in zbrush but it was taking to long, so I zipped the hand across to maya and threw some joints in to making posing easier.

On a side note, the short films we made for school have been doing well on the film fest circuit which is great, and Funeral Home Pinatas is in Annecy Festival (France), Melbourne International Animated Festival (Australia) and Uni Shorts (New Zealand) 2013.

Hello Monday

Start of another action packed week, back flying into again. Carrying on with post apoc character, should have the last of the props finished tomorrow, with some pose tests, I was originally thinking have her with rifle slung, standing reading a map, but know unsure if she should be carrying the rifle walking instead..guess will find out in the tests. want to have the modelling all finished up this week, posed then ready for painting and rendering over the weekend and next week.

I did a concept art test last week which was fun, first time I have ever done that before, crazy to see how quickly time fly past when you are working have to go back and start doing some more speed painting exercises again.

Time for sleep, it is nearly 3 in the morning and I just want to keep going.....gotta put the wacom pen down now..night all

Oh here is an update, of where she is up to at the mo.

More than enough

Bit of a quite week work wise, so more time for practicing, finished third week of the scripting writing course, going over 3 act structure, and the break down of The Heroes Journey, and started noticing it a lot more in the films I watch. So I have got my main characters, got the world they live in written up, will be setting up the treatment this week.

3d wise, I have tidied up the mad scientist guy, but he is on hold as I found a 3d comp over at cghub to enter to start getting my name out in some forums and of course more stuff to add to my portfolio.
Been wanting to get in and learn some more features in zbrush, so using the comp as a good time for that. Qmesher, sculpting wrinkles and creases (need more practice), shadowbox etc.

I wanted my post apoc character to be inspired by Dayz ( check it out, created by a kiwi), I really wanted to make a fan art piece for it, and with this come I can kill two birds with one stone.

The AK is still waiting for it's spec map, which I plan to get onto this week, then should have that ready to render and turntable set.
